Welcome to the Western Indian Ocean Mariculture Network Website. You will find information on regional Mariculture projects, links to regional experts in Mariculture and online documents. We hope you find the site useful.

Beginning mid 1990, WIOMSA and partners have worked tirelessly and continuously to promote mariculture development in the region. Accordingly, in the 2005 Mauritius symposium, the need to develop a mariculture network and forum was aired by mariculture practitioners in the region. WIOMSA, working with Coastal Resources Center of the University of Rhode Island, Institute of Marine Sciences and other partners developed the network and the forum which is moderated by a team of mariculturists from the countries in the region. The highly awaited tool, the mariculture discussion forum, has been launched and subscribers can comment directly on discussion questions raised by themselves and posted by the country forum moderators or the regional moderator mmochi@ims.udsm.ac.tz. In addition to the forum, the mariculture network is a host to a list of mariculture experts, small scale mariculture projects and a number of useful publications from the projects. The list of experts is linked to their areas and species of specialization as well as communication information.
