The Western Indian Ocean Mariculture Network has been formed as a result of discusssions at the 4th WIOMSA Science Symposium in Mauritus in 2005. This network comprises mariculture practitioners, researchers, and policy makers from Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, South Africa, Madagascar, Mauritus, Reunion, Comores, Seychelles, and beyond.

The WIO Mariculture Network will be supported by this web forum tool developed by the Sustainable Coastal Communities and Ecosystems project with funding from the US Agency for International Development.

Additional tools, including a directory of regional mariculture experts, an inventory of mariculture projects, and an online publication library will compliment the online forum. These additional tools will be made available through the website http://www.wiomsa.org/mariculture/.
